Gerry Carter joins Dragonfly Asia
All of us here at Dragonfly are delighted that Gerry Carter has recently joined us as Director of Dragonfly SE Asia and as a result Gerry has already had meetings with the Thai MInistry of Education, the Department of British Trade, The British Embassy Bangkok and the Bureau of Educational Innovation Development, Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) regarding The British Teaching Diploma and its deployment into Thai Schools both independent and government run.
Gerry is a resident of Thailand and first came to the country in the early 1980s. He gained extensive knowledge of local and international school education there after first teaching English in Bangkok, then as a Thai teacher at Bangkok Patana School. After that, there followed a 15 year stint as a founding member of the Harrow International School of Bangkok where he was Head of the Thai Department as well as Expeditions' Coordinator.
Gerry is delighted to return to his beloved field of education following a seven year spell as a Thai news translator, journalist and columnist with Thailand's largest online news provider.
Married to a Thai national with four children, Gerry is not only fluent in the Thai (spoken and written) language but also brings solid aspects of Thai and western culture to the role. His extensive work at Harrow International brought him into close contact with many of the world’s leading educators and thinkers, and he sees his role of Director in Dragonfly SE Asia as bringing the very latest in global best practice to his beloved ‘home’ country of Thailand. His mission statement is to bring ‘affordable excellence to all’.
A keen football fan, Gerry is also a professional Scrabble player and one of the world's top competitors having represented Thailand at six world championships.
